Phenylethylamine is produced in the human body after the decarboxylation process from the amino acid L-Phenylalanine, known to be mediated by aromatic amino acid decarboxylase (AADC). L-Phenylalanine is known to be converted into L-Tyrosine, a non-essential amino acid responsible for creating melanin through the phenylalanine hydroxylase enzyme. Phenylethylamine may contribute to the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin.
